Our Day One Series
Day One is a Daysim series about the first days nobody prepares you for. Every edition, we sit down with someone whose work we admire and ask about their real beginnings, the nerves, the fumbles, and the lessons they carried forward.

There is a version of every new role where you look like you know exactly what you are doing. You show up prepared, say the right things, and give the impression that you have everything under control.
Then there is the real first day, which almost nobody talks about honestly.
Day One is a Daysim series about beginnings, transitions, and the moments that shape us before we feel ready. In every edition, we sit down with someone whose work we admire and ask them to look back at the early days of their journey.
We talk about the week before they started, when they were excited and quietly overwhelmed. We talk about the first time they had to make a difficult decision without knowing whether it was the right one. We talk about the client they were not sure they would win, the responsibility they did not feel prepared to carry, and the lessons they had to learn by doing.
These conversations are not about presenting success as a straight line. They are about what it takes to find your footing while everything is still new.
Some of the people we feature are stepping into their first professional role. Some are building businesses, changing careers, or creating something of their own. Others have had several new beginnings and are still learning what each one asks of them. Their paths are different, but the feeling is often familiar.
Nobody feels completely ready on Day One. Most of us are learning as we go, making decisions with limited information, and trying to appear more certain than we feel. That does not mean we are failing. It means we are beginning.
We created this series because the early days deserve more honest conversations. They are often difficult, but they are also where confidence is built, perspective is gained, and careers begin to take shape.
Sometimes, hearing someone else describe their uncertainty is enough to make our own feel more manageable. Sometimes, one person’s story gives us the courage to take the next step.
The people who grow are not necessarily the ones who always know what to do. They are the ones who keep having first days and carry a little more wisdom into each one.
This is Day One. Pull up a chair.
